Dream Big. Live Big. Do Good. Inspire People.

These are the beliefs that drive my passion for ‘adventures with a cause’.

From early childhood I have devoured stories of great adventurers and explorers. I have always dreamed big and imagined great adventures of my own, but until quitting a successful market research career in 2008 I’d lacked the self-belief to actually live big.

That all changed when the idea of running New Zealand’s 7 mainland Great Walks back to back in just 7 days came to me out of the blue. It was a hugely audacious challenge; one that nobody had ever attempted before and it would push me, a humble ‘weekend warrior’ type athlete, to the very brink of my capabilities.

But I had a special reason for wanting to attempt the unthinkable; what many said was the impossible. I wanted to do good by raising a serious amount of money for a charity close to my heart, Leukaemia & Blood Cancer NZ, because as a 9-year old I had lost my older brother to this cruel disease.

And against the odds I succeeded. What’s more I discovered that in sharing my adventure I could inspire people to push their own boundaries and tackle their own ‘personal Everest’.

Since then I have dreamed up, planned and completed lots more epic adventures. I have raised almost $800,000 for charity. I have defied the odds and refused to let my limited athletic prowess define who I am or what I am capable of. I continue to push my personal boundaries and through writing, film-making and public speaking I continue to tell stories that inspire people to believe, as I do, that ordinary people really can achieve extraordinary things.

“Mal Law not only touches lives, he saves lives. There are few people who can truly say they are living life at 100%, but Mal is one of them. While he may be better known as the man who sets himself seemingly impossible challenges (and achieves them), he also takes time to personally connect with the many people he has helped inspire. It is his quiet humility, his willingness to connect with others and his unwavering commitment to make a difference in the world that give him mana”

My Biggest Challenge Yet!

The article ‘Breakable’, which is reproduced below, was recently published in Kiwi Trail Runner Magazine. I wrote it some 9 months after finishing the High Five-0 Challenge, when I believed I was finally recovered from the ravages of that epic adventure. For the three months that followed I cautiously got back into regular running and … Continued
